HARM Of SMOKING

Smoking is the major cause of mortality with bronchogenic carcinoma of the lung & is one of the factors causing death due to malignancies of larynx , oral cavity , oesophagus , bladder , kidney , pancreas , stomach and uterine cervix and coronary heart diseases.

Nicotine is the major substance present in the smoke that causes physical dependence . Levulinic acid , added to cigarettes to mash the harsh taste of the nicotine .Smoke from the burning end of a cigarette contains over 4000 Chemicals & 40 carcinogens. It has long been known that tobacco smoke is carcinogenic or cancer-causing.

During Smoking within the first 8-10 seconds , nicotine is absorbed through the lungs & quickly moved into the bloodstream & circulated throughout the brain . Nicotine enters through the mucous membranes that line the mouth or nose & even through the skin.

Nicotine is one of the most powerful nerve poisons & It binds stereo-selectivity to nicotinic receptors located in the brain , the medulla , the neuro-muscular junctions. In high concentrations nicotine is more deadly . In fact one drop of purified nicotine on tongue will kill a person . It has been used as a pesticide for centuries . Like other compounds , smoking can act as tumor promoters or tumour initiators.

Experts say that Smoking is linked to memory as it narrows arteries . It restricts the free flow of blood to the brain . It causes nerve cell death or decline of brain-memory . Abstinence from smoking is essential , not only to avoid this systematic effect but also to reduce the ill-effects on the environment..!!

Why ..??? Why. .?? Why. ....???? W omen constitute half of this world . But a recent survey showed that there are still many communities in India which don't welcome the birth of a girl child . It is a shame That inspite of liberalisation & globalisation we are mentally still deeply rooted in the superstitions & beliefs of the middle ages & feudalism . No doubt, there are certain communities in India which consider the birth of a girl child an inauspicious burden. In a male dominated society , the birth of a girl child is not an occasion for rejoicing . But the most unfortunate & alarming thing is that even in most prosperous states foetal killing & abortions are very com...
